This is my new favorite movie! I absolutely love this movie! It is a musical directed by Kenny Ortega. It takes place back at the turn of the century in 1899. This movie is about poor boys, some orphans, some runaways, and others have families that they are helping to support. This movie has tons of fun songs and awesome dances. Personally my favorite character is Racetrack, then Mush, then Spot Conlon. After Joseph Pulitzer raises the price of the newspapers by one tenth of a percent, the Newsies go on strike. Christian Bale and David Moscow play the two main characters Jack Kelly, and David Jacobs, they are the two Newsies that lead the other Newsies to a strike. This film is about friendship, and determination with some dedication involved. Jack Kelly is a fugitive running away from the law and making friends and strengthening friendships along the way. With some help from the rest of New York; Harlem, Queens, Brooklyn, and other cities around New York, the Newsies become unstoppable.
After a big celebration of getting in the New York "Sun", the Newsies from New York City (where the movie takes place), gather up all the other Newsies from all over the state to have a rally, while at the rally the police come to take Jack Kelly back to jail, the Newsies gang up to spare Jack from living behind Bars. After being taken back to jail, Jack meets up with Mr. Pulitzer, owner of "The World" newspaper. He offers Jack a well paying job, just to get him away from the strike. David comes to the rescue, yet Jack declines and goes back to the refuge (jail for kids). The next day the Newsies are startled to see Jack dressed up in a fancy suit and working for Mr. Pulitzer, the man that Jack started the strike against.
After Jack read the article that reporter, Bryan Denton wrote about the rally , Jack realizes that with the Newsies is where he belongs. Newsies is a great story for all ages. I love it, and would recommend this for anyone looking for a good story.
